ANCOR Joins Coalition Letter Expressing Concerns with Removal of VR Grants

As part of its coalition efforts, ANCOR has signed on to a letter by the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) expressing concerns about the removal of VR State Supported Employment Grants from the Fiscal Year 2018 budget – these cuts add up to $27.5 million. The letter is addressed to the Senate Appropriations Committee, with a companion letter going to the House.

Pediatrician With ‘Facial Deformity’ Says Parents Refused To Let Him Treat Their Children

Thirty-seven-year-old Michael Goodman is a successful pediatrician from Indianapolis, Indiana. On November 8, 2017, he wrote an emotional and personal Facebook post about living with Treacher Collins Syndrome.

According to Genetics Home Reference, Treacher Collins Syndrome affects the development of facial bones and tissue and affects 1 in 50,000 people.

Michael decided to share his story in conjunction with the movie Wonder, which hits theaters November 17, 2017. The film is based on the 2012 novel of the same name. The story follows 10-year-old Auggie who also has Treacher Collins Syndrome.

Michael called his post his “Wonder Story” and it has been shared more than 1,200 times with over 300 comments and 2,800 reactions.

Frank Stephens Stars on the Runway, on the Big Screen and in DC

The self-advocate has been in the spotlight at the Be Beautiful Be Yourself Global Down Syndrome Foundation DC Gala, on the big screen as an actor and a screenwriter, and in Washington, DC, where he’s met the president.

Frank uses his gifts to be a spokesperson for himself and others similarly situated. In October of 2012, he was at the center of a very public debate over the continued power of the “r-word” to casually demean people with intellectual disabilities. Frank wrote an open letter to political commentator Ann Coulter after her use of the term to describe the president. As a result of his letter “going viral” and his appearance on “Piers Morgan Tonight,” Frank has made more than 3 million new friends via social media. He is an actor, screenwriter and model in the Be Beautiful Be Yourself Global Down Syndrome Foundation DC Gala. He recently sat down with Global to talk about what drives him to succeed.
