Twin Special Needs Girls Adopt Disabled Pit Bull For Christmas



It’s not easy being different. Tianna and Gianna know that better than most people. The twin 10-year-old girls are legally blind, and Gianna suffers from autism. It’s hard for them to find someone who truly understands what they go through. Maybe that’s why this year they only had one Christmas wish. They wanted a disabled dog who would love them and understand them.

Smithsonian Exhibit Puts Focus On Accessible Design

From clothing to utensils and computers, a new exhibit is showcasing the varied and increasing ways that today’s world is adapting to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities.

The display at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum dubbed “Access+Ability” includes over 70 works that highlight how design is making a broad range of experiences more inclusive.

Divided into three sections — moving, connecting and living — the exhibit features the latest in cane technology, clothing with magnets and other accessibility modifications, eye-controlled speech-generating devices and more innovations.

Project Action Meeting to Advocate in Support of Bill #22-0154 - Citizens with Intellectual Disabilities Civil Rights Restoration Act



Last week members of Project Action met with Council-member David Grosso to advocate in support of Bill #22-0154 - Citizens with Intellectual Disabilities Civil Rights Restoration Act. 

"As introduced, this bill removes the requirement that persons with intellectual disabilities who are supported by the Department of Disability Services (DDS) be civilly committed in order to receive residential services. It repeals and amends existing law to bar new civil commitments of persons with intellectual disabilities. "

Today, We Celebrate 20 YEARS of RCM of Washington, Inc.!



Today, we celebrate 20 YEARS of RCM of Washington, Inc.! Looking back it's amazing to see how much we have grown since 1998. Not only as an organization, but as a field. That being said, Disability Rights are Human Rights - and we still have a lot of work to do!

Look out for a formal celebration in the spring...but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy a few oldie but goodie memories!
