The Department on Disability Services Invites You to Learn About Proposed Legislation that Will Give People with Disabilities Greater Decision Making Rights

The Department on Disability Services invites you to learn about proposed legislation that will give people with disabilities greater decision making rights.
Monday, November 9, 3 – 4:30 pm
RISE Center
2730 Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave., SE
Washington, DC 20032
Thursday, November 12, 12:30 – 2 pm
Anacostia Library
1800 Good Hope Road SE
Washington, DC 20020
Friday, November 13, 3-4: 30 PM
Shaw (Watha T. Daniel) Library
1630 7th Street, N.W.’
Washington, DC 20001
You and your family members will learn about pending legislation that: seeks to end all new civil commitment for people with intellectual disabilities, provides an opportunity for people currently committed to end court oversight, and recognizes supported decision-making as a less restrictive alternative to guardianship, so that people with disabilities are able to make as many choices as they can about their own lives. If you have questions or need accommodations, please contact Jestina Heroe at (202) 730-1586 or jestina.heroe@dc.gov.
